During negotiations on the junior doctor contract, agreement was reached on the introduction of a 'guardian of safe working’ in organisations that employ or host NHS trainee doctors to oversee the process of ensuring safe working hours for junior doctors.
The role sits independently from the management structure, with a primary aim to represent and resolve issues related to working hours for the junior doctors employed by it.
The Guardian of Safe Working supports and enables a safe and positive working and learning environment for junior doctors. Quarterly reports are presented to the Trust Board along with an annual report:
