Refer a patient to the Cystic Fibrosis department

As a specialist cystic fibrosis (CF) centre, all children who attend the CF Unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) must be referred via local hospital consultants or community paediatricians. This page includes information about how to refer a patient to the CF department at GOSH.

How to refer a patient

If you would like to discuss referral of a patient to the GOSH CF service please telephone the CF Office on 020 7672 6714. Direct referrals can also be faxed to the cystic fibrosis office on 020 7813 8514.

Newborn screening for CF is now routinely undertaken throughout the UK as part of the heel prick sample, therefore most referrals are made directly from the newborn screening laboratory to the CF Office. The Newborn Screening Programme Centre website has further information.

Although CF is now mostly diagnosed through this screening process, there are some babies and older children (and even adults) who are diagnosed following unexplained illness.
