Get Active stairs

To encourage physical activity, the stairs between two level of the Variety Club Building have been transformed into a vibrant, engaging and interactive journey.

Visual artist Marcus Walters worked with patients from Physiotherapy to create a playful visual journey between levels one and two featuring a larger-than-life figure, bouncing ball and lighter than air clouds.

Alongside this, music by GOSH Resident Artist Hattie Whitehead, plays as you go past. Including words and phrases captured by Hattie from children at GOSH, the music and visual art work together to make an everyday space fun and interactive.

Encouraged to "Take the Adventure Stairs", patients, families and staff can tip toe, boing or stomp their way up or down. By increasing stair us, the artwork also benefits everyone by reducing lift wait times and improving flow throughout the building.

The Get Active Stairs were conceived by Lucy Waller, Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist and made possible by a grant from the GOSH Charity's 2025 Everyday Impact Fund.
