GOSH and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have signed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement, demonstrating a shared ambition to enhance clinical care, operations, research and education through digital advancements.

Building on an existing relationship which has delivered a range of digital, data and other broader initiatives, the agreement creates a strategic framework for GOSH and AWS to work more closely. The collaboration aims to bring emerging technologies into the hospital to support better outcomes for patients and families, empower staff, and advance research and education.

The agreement reinforces both organisations' positions as leaders in digital innovation and reflects a commitment to ensuring that new technologies are developed and adopted safely, in ways that deliver meaningful benefits for children, families and the NHS.

At the heart of the collaboration is a shared belief that healthcare organisations and industry partners can achieve more by working together. By combining GOSH's world-leading clinical expertise and digital maturity with AWS's experience in cloud computing, data infrastructure and artificial intelligence (AI), the organisations aim to accelerate data and technology capabilities and tackle some of the most complex challenges facing healthcare.

A focus on care, operations, research and education

The agreement is aligned with GOSH's Together We Power Care strategy and will focus on four key areas: clinical care, operations, research and education.

Through these workstreams, GOSH and AWS will explore opportunities to support clinicians with better access to information and decision-support tools, streamline operational processes, strengthen the digital foundations that underpin world-class research, and equip staff with the AI skills and confidence needed to thrive in an increasingly digital healthcare environment. This includes using AWS’s AI services and solutions to enable personalised treatment pathways for complex paediatric conditions.

The collaboration will also seek to improve experiences for children and families by enabling more personalised, connected and accessible services, while supporting GOSH's ambition to translate technological advancements into real-world impact.

The strategic collaboration will be governed jointly by leaders from both organisations and is intended to run through to 2030, aligned with the delivery of GOSH's current organisational strategy.

As the collaboration develops, both organisations will work together to identify and prioritise opportunities that can deliver measurable benefits for staff, patients, families and the wider healthcare system.

Technological advances are creating opportunities to enhance care, operations, research and education in ways that would have seemed unimaginable just a few years ago. By combining GOSH’s expertise in complex paediatric care with AWS’s digital capabilities, we have an opportunity to develop new approaches to healthcare and enable a more connected, seamless experience for our patients, families and staff.”

Ash Thankey, Managing Director and General Manager, UK, Germany and International Organisations, Public Sector at Amazon Web Services, said:

"We are delighted to formalise our collaboration with Great Ormond Street Hospital to pioneer digital and AI innovation to deliver better outcomes and experiences for patients, families, staff and researchers. At AWS, our goal is to help healthcare organisations use data to arrive at actionable insights that improve outcomes. Through this agreement, GOSH will be able to access AWS's advanced cloud and AI technologies, backed by enterprise-grade security and privacy, to safely test and deploy digital innovations that enhance care for the children and families it serves."
