Partnering with GOSH

One of the world's leading centres for child health.

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) opened in 1852, the first in the UK to provide dedicated inpatient care for children, when our founder Dr Charles West realised, they needed a specialist approach. Today, GOSH is a global leader in children's healthcare, ranked as being in the top 1% in the world.

Today, we have, over 5000 staff that make GOSH more than just a hospital. It is a safe and welcoming home-from-home for our patients from the UK and beyond. A place where they can receive world-class care, go to school, play and make new friends. With all our experts under one roof, we continually challenge ourselves to find better, faster and kinder treatments.

We bring together world-class research, innovation, education, and clinical care to improve outcomes for children and young people with rare and complex conditions. Every day, around 750 seriously ill children and young people are seen at GOSH for life-changing treatment and care, our case complexity is double most UK paediatric hospitals.

We are globally recognised for pioneering gene therapies, cellular medicines, world-first treatments and breakthrough genomic programmes. We continue to push the boundaries of what is possible for children and young people whilst transforming paediatric medicine.

Today, our partnership with UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health and NIHR Great Ormond Street Hospital Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) creates one of the world's leading child health ecosystems, accelerating the translation of discovery into life-changing care.

67 specialities and sub specialities

We have the highest number of specialised services for children in the UK, and we are also the largest paediatric centre in the UK for many services, including heart surgery, brain surgery, gene therapy and intensive care. We regularly publish our outcomes showing both scale and quality of our care.

The future of healthcare

From genomics and advanced therapies to artificial intelligence and digital health, we combine scientific excellence with clinical expertise and compassionate care to tackle some of the most complex challenges in healthcare

Research that transforms care

Research is at the heart of everything we do. In 2025 to 2026, the hospital published 1,119 papers. GOSH research papers have the highest citation impact among the top 10 international children’s hospitals.

Our clinicians, scientists and innovators work side-by-side to develop new diagnostics, treatments and models of care that improve outcomes for children globally.

This integrated approach enables patients to benefit from pioneering advances in areas such as gene and cell therapy, precision medicine, rare diseases, cancer, neuroscience and regenerative medicine.

Through our NIHR-supported research programmes and partnerships, GOSH is helping to develop the next generation of treatments for children with rare and complex conditions.

The NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) is the UK's largest funder of health and care research and plays a vital role in turning scientific discoveries into better treatments and care. For paediatrics, NIHR is particularly important because it supports research designed specifically for children, helping ensure they have access to the evidence, treatments and innovations they need, rather than relying on research developed primarily for adults.

Integral to our research ecosystem is the Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Disease in Children, established through a transformative gift from the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founding Father of the United Arab Emirates, and his family. The Centre was created with a shared ambition: to accelerate breakthroughs for children with some of the world's rarest and most complex conditions.

The Zayed Centre brings together researchers, clinicians and technology experts in a unique environment designed to accelerate the journey from scientific discovery to patient benefit. Delivering a bench-to-bedside approach, where discoveries made in the laboratory can be rapidly translated into new diagnostics, treatments and therapies for children and young people. Trusted by families around the world

Alongside our NHS services, GOSH cares for international and privately funded patients from across the Middle East, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.

Families, clinicians and healthcare organisations turn to GOSH when conditions are exceptionally rare, complex or difficult to diagnose.

Our multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach brings together experts from different clinical specialties and support services to develop a holistic understanding of each child’s needs. All 67 of GOSH’s paediatric clinical specialties and sub-specialties hold regular MDT meetings, bringing together more than 20 professionals to support collaborative decision-making and coordinated care. This approach helps ensure that children with rare and complex conditions benefit from the collective expertise of their care teams.

We work closely with referring clinicians, hospitals and ministries of health to ensure continuity of care, specialist knowledge-sharing and long-term support beyond treatment.

Unlocking the power of genomics

Genomic testing for rare and inherited disease began at GOSH in 1985 and over the subsequent decades’ advances in genomic technologies, increasing clinical adoption and the establishment of the NHS Genomic Medicine Service have transformed the scale and scope of activity undertaken by the laboratory.

We deliver clinically driven, fully accredited genomic testing at scale. Available for international partners, our testing services operate within the governance and quality standards of the NHS, meaning that partners and patients can be confident that every test is safe, robust and actionable. This scale and expertise underpins resilience, rapid turnaround and the ability to adopt cutting edge technologies quickly and safely.

Reporting results transparently

Clinical excellence is measured, evidenced and shared. We are determined to always raise standards so publish more clinical outcomes data to our website than any other children's hospital worldwide. Across our specialist services, rigorous outcomes measurement helps us understand what works, improve what we do, and demonstrate impact.

For global partners, this depth of data provides confidence that collaboration with GOSH is grounded in evidence, innovation and demonstrable results. By openly reporting outcomes and benchmarking wherever possible against national and international peers, we are not only improving care within our own hospital but helping to shape the future of paediatric healthcare worldwide.
