Join our annual event

Join our fun-filled day of sports and activities in 2025!

Our annual Get Active: Sports and Activity Day is for patients going through treatment and beyond.

You'll see many staff from the wards, a huge army of volunteers, and people from charities and local sports clubs to help everyone participate in a variety of activities.

This will include climbing walls, cycling, athletics, fencing, tennis, ballet, wheelchair basketball, archery, football, cricket and inflatable slides just to mention a few, with also a touch of face painting, ice creams and so much fun to be had by all who come!

The impact of Get Active

Reflecting on last year's event, Lucy Waller, the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist who organises the event, shared:

"It can be difficult for children to stay active during cancer treatment, especially if they’re in hospital for long periods without as much space and energy to run and play.

"But even a small amount of physical activity can boost their physical and mental recovery, and so this event is about giving families the confidence to give it a try. We’ll often hear families say I had no idea my child could do this, and go on to plan things like family badminton tournaments.

"We hope that after this event families can continue to enjoy being active, and most of all have some fun."

Open to past and present patients

This fun day out is free to past and present GOSH patients who have had treatment for the following conditions:

  • cancer
  • bone marrow transplant
  • immunology
  • haematology
  • haemophilia

Parents and siblings are also welcome to come and join in.
