GOSH BRC Junior Faculty Conference and Training Support Fund - Sierra Schaffer

What did you present at the conference (including the title)?

  • Novel ultra low-cost laparoscopic trainer design and development
  • Antibiotic prophylaxis use in paediatric robotic assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty: A systematic review

What were the main benefits/learnings from the conference?

  • To be able to share our work with peers as well as senior colleagues and experts in the field to get feedback, and to be able to see what other people have been working on

How did attending the conference benefit your career development?

  • Really good practice presenting in a new format after many previous opportunities had been cancelled due to pandemic or out of reach as a junior researcher.

Did you learn any tips or best practice about how to make the most of virtual attendance at a conference?

  • Important to engage with the other presentations, attend live presentations, view the poster gallery, and leave questions and comments where you have them
  • Respond with the comments following your own presentation to get the best feedback and engagement. Helpful to consider when taking the project forwards, as well as getting feedback on presenting style for future projects.
