Current Position: PhD student

Event/conference: 26th congress of the European Society of Biomechanics (ESB 2021)

Presenting: PhD results

Date: 14th July 2021

Funding requested: £200

What did you present at the conference (including the title)?

I presented my work on the finite element modelling of posterior vault expansion in syndromic patients in an 8-minute pre-recorded oral presentation (A finite element modelling framework to predict spring assisted posterior vault expansion outcomes)

What were the main benefits/learnings from the conference?

This conference was the first one I attended in the context of my PhD and therefore taught me a lot about my communication and presentation skills. Attending the presentations of experts in my field of study was also extremely interesting and enriching.

How did attending the conference benefit your career development?

Presenting alongside two other colleagues really reinforced the feeling of being part of a team. It also broke me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to discuss with other participants. Attending more and more conferences will gradually help me to build up a professional network.

Did you learn any tips or best practice about how to make the most of virtual attendance at a conference?

I didn’t learn any specific tips this time but I’m really looking forward to attending the next conference, hopefully in person!
