Vas Novelli

Dr Vas Novelli  is Consultant in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), London, and Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Child Health (ICH), University of London,  since 1991.

He obtained his paediatric infectious diseases training at GOSH, under Dr Bill Marshall, and then at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, under Dr Philip Brunell. He has been Lead Clinician in infectious diseases at GOSH, and Chair of the General Medical Staff Committee of the Hospital.

Specialisms

His main interests are:

  • HIV/AIDS

  • tuberculosis/atypical mycobacterial infections

  • infections in the immunocompromised host

  • Varicella-Zoster virus infections: treatment and prevention

  • Chronic viral hepatitis

Qualifications

He has been, until recently, Executive Member of the Children’s HIV Association of Great Britain and Ireland (CHIVA). He has also been a Member of the MHRA specialist Paediatric Panel, and also the Infectious Diseases Panel.

Currently he is Co-Director of the GOSH HIV Family Clinic, and a Member of the Steering Committee of the Collaborative HIV Paediatric Study Group of the UK (CHIPS).

He has lectured extensively in the UK to medical students, paediatric SHOs (MRCPCH courses and GOSH in-house training), specialist registrars, and fellow consultants. He is the organiser of the yearly course: 'More Hot Topics in Paediatrics'.
