Professor Faith Gibson
Faith Gibson is Deputy Chief Nurse for Research, Nursing and Allied Health and Professor of Child Health and Cancer Care.
She came to GOSH in 1986, when she joined the clinical cancer team, and she has been at the hospital since then, in a number of different clinical, educational and research roles.Specialisms
Professor Gibson is a nurse, a children’s cancer nurse, and now a researcher with a programme of research focused on children’s and young people’s cancer care. Her acclaimed work in this field led to a fellowship with the Royal College of Nursing, and more recently, a Life Time Achievement Award from the International Society of Paediatric Oncology.
Professor Gibson is committed to ensuring we have the next generation of researchers in child health, and she is a passionate advocate for the role of clinical academics.
Departments
Professor Gibson is Lead of the Centre for Outcomes and Experience Research in Children’s Health, Illness and Disability (ORCHID). She holds a joint appointment with the University of Surrey.
Qualifications
Professor Gibson, trained first as an adult nurse, then a children’s nurse, and since qualifying has spent all of her clinical time as a cancer nurse. On completing a PhD in 2001, she moved into research.
Her qualifications include: PhD, MSc (Cancer Nursing), RGN, RSCN, ONC Cert, Cert. Ed. RNT
Research Interests
- Improving process and outcomes of care for children/young people with cancer and their families.
- Improving assessment and management of symptoms.
- Understanding and improving survivorship care.
- Improving skills of the nursing workforce to deliver cancer care.
- Improving the experiences of children and young people in hospital.
