GOSH Chief Executive to leave next year
13 Nov 2025, 11:30 a.m.
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children has announced that its Chief Executive, Matthew Shaw, will be leaving in the new year to take up the role of Group Chief Executive of St George’s Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group.
Mat has been at GOSH for the last seven years, firstly as Medical Director and then as Chief Executive since December 2018.
Speaking about his departure, he said: “GOSH is a special place. We look after children and young people with the some of the most complex health conditions in the UK.
“It’s been an absolute privilege to meet and care for some truly inspirational patients and families and to work with our wonderful partners – including the GOSH Charity – and supporters over the last seven and a half years. Most of all I have been very proud to lead such a dedicated workforce - their commitment to cutting edge research and providing the best possible clinical care to our patients is clear to see every single day.”
Ellen Schroder, Chair of Great Ormond Street Hospital, said: “Mat has led GOSH through a period of significant change, including the covid pandemic, and he leaves us with a new 5-year strategy and our brilliant Children’s Cancer Centre well on the way to being built.
“Mat has been an incredible asset to our hospital and has contributed to NHS way beyond the walls of GOSH. He will be much missed, and I would like to wish him all the very best in his new role.”
An announcement about Mat’s replacement will be made in due course.
