GOSH appoints new chief executive

New GOSH hospital CEO Mat Shaw

Matthew Shaw has been appointed as Chief Executive at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) after being the Medical Director at the Trust.Prior to joining GOSH, Matthew was a Medical Director in BUPA Health Services. He was also the Medical Director then Deputy Chief Executive and Transformation Director of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH). He is also a consultant spinal surgeon.

Welcoming the new appointment, Chair of Great Ormond Street Hospital, Sir Mike Rake, said: “Matthew is an experienced clinical leader who has worked in both public and private healthcare sectors. Since arriving at Great Ormond Street Hospital he has worked with passion and energy to make the most of opportunities and tackle some of the complex challenges the organisation faces. I look forward to working with him in his new role to help the hospital become outstanding in everything it does.

“As we announce this appointment, on behalf of the Board I would also like to thank Peter Steer for his tremendous contribution over the last four years at GOSH. He has brought great stability and direction to the organisation.”

Matthew Shaw said: “It is an honour to become the Chief Executive of such an amazing institution and be part of such a diverse and highly-performing organisation that works so hard to help children and young people fulfil their potential.

“I am looking forward to working with partners to continue to deliver the highest standards of care and carry out ground breaking research. I am also keen that Great Ormond Street Hospital makes a national contribution and ensures that children and child health are high up on the national agenda."

Matthew will take up the position of Chief Executive on 15 December 2018.

Work will now be undertaken to recruit a Medical Director.
