Clinics provided by the Inherited Cardiovascular Diseases Unit

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE:

Great Ormond Street Hospital has been working with Public Health England and implementing NHS guidance to control risk from the virus.

In March 2020, we took the very difficult decision to cancel all routine outpatient appointments in the Centre for Inherited Cardiovascular Disease for a three month period, to help limit the number of visitors to the hospital during the peak of the pandemic. We have now started to reopen our outpatient clinics again to a small number of patients. These face-to-face appointments will be offered to patients based on clinical need. Other patients will continue to be seen in virtual clinics (by video or telephone call) until it is safe for us to bring larger numbers of visitors into the hospital again. It may be necessary to postpone some routine screening appointments to accommodate those patients who need to be seen more urgently.

If you have an appointment coming up, you will be contacted by a member of the team beforehand to let you know whether you need to come to the hospital or not.

We appreciate that these changes may cause understandable concern, and we want to reassure you that we are taking every precaution to balance risks and do the best in every case. Please be assured that all patients will receive an appointment in due course appropriate to their clinical needs.

The Inherited Cardiovascular Diseases service currently provides two weekly cardiomyopathy clinics, an inherited arrhythmia clinic and an inherited aortopathy clinic. There are additional specialist clinics each week dedicated to the cardiovascular care of patients with rare underlying diseases and ion channel disease.

The intergrated service is run by a multidisciplinary team, including paediatric cardiologists with expertise in ICCs, paediatric cardiac specialist nurses, clinical psychologists, paediatric clinical physiologists and admin support staff.
