Entry requirements
Candidates must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the International Medical Fellowship Programme:
- Have funding agreed with your home organisation to commit to a placement fee. Please note that GOSH does not provide scholarships for this programme.
- Hold a medical degree that is acceptable to the UK General Medical Council (GMC).
- Have four years or more of specialty training at the time of entry.
- Have passed the Part 1 College exam, or an equivalent UK examination.
- Have a postgraduate qualification in your chosen specialty, such as Membership or Fellowship of a United Kingdom Royal College, or an equivalent relevant postgraduate qualification from your home country.
- Have been in full-time clinical work for 10 out of the 12 months directly before applying for GMC registration, and have been in clinical work for at least three of the five years before commencing the Fellowship.
- Have passed the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Occupational English Test (OET) within two years before applying to the GMC.
- For IELTS, achieve a score of at least 7.0 in each academic test area — speaking, listening, reading and writing — and an overall score of 7.5 or above.
- For OET, achieve a grade B or above in each testing area: speaking, listening, reading and writing.
- Please check the British Council website for further information about IELTS and OET, including approved providers across the world.
- Be resident and living overseas at the time of applying.
- Be willing to return to your home country after your visa expires.
- Alternatively, candidates may apply if already registered with the GMC and have completed, or will have completed, at least four years of specialty training.
