NHS Kickstart - Going Above and Beyond

NHS-Kickstart-60

Over the past few months, following the Baker Clause (Stipulation that schools must allow colleges and training providers access to every student in Years 8 to 13 to discuss non-academic routes that are available to them) and Gatsby Report (Heart of Career Strategy), we have been inundated with requests to deliver careers advice to young people. The GLA are keen to support our local community, and colleges near and far to help them find out more about all of the jobs that exist in the NHS and Great Ormond Street and how to progress into them.

Our Offering

The GOSH Learning Academy have designed and implemented an initiative to support and educate young people on the many careers available to them across the NHS.

We understand the importance of career advice for children from a young age within education and now deliver outreach to school children from year 9 upwards, delivering our inaugural event to our local borough of Camden in October 2023.

We are committed to continuing our vision of being a world class provider of education and will be working with more boroughs to showcase the opportunities which exist within GOSH and the NHS.

Our teams supporting this offering are Apprenticeships, Medical, Nursing, ICT, Healthcare Scientists, Pharmacy, Allied Health Professionals, Estates and Facilities (to name a few) are all dedicated to giving helpful advice to young people about their journey and the pathway taken to join the NHS, as well as answer any questions they may have.

How to get involved

We would be happy to deliver in your local borough and invite you to reach out to us via young.visitors@gosh.nhs.uk but before you do;

We ask that you are able to provide us with a large enough space to support your local borough and a key point of contact to help arrange the logistics of the day.

Our programme would feature focused talks from each team, interactive stalls and demonstrations, chances to practice procedures and learn clinical skills.

Terms and Conditions of booking with us.

  • The children will remain the sole responsibility of the school at all times
  • In order to join the event we require the school to provide assurance that you can transport these children to and from the event
  • We request that consent be obtained for photography
  • The GLA will not be providing refreshment during the event, so schools must advise children to bring a water bottle
