Immunology

Proteinase 3 (PR-3) antibodies are highly specific for Granulomatosis with Polyangitis (GPA), previously known as Wegener’s granulomatosis and are also found in microscopic polyangitis (MPA) and Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangitis (EGPA) (previously known as Churg Strauss Syndrome). Myeloperoxidase (MPO) antibodies are found in pauci immune Rapidly Progressive Glomerulonephritis (pauci immune RPGN), GPA and MPA. Disease may be life threating, therefore immediate treatment is required. Values can vary according to disease activity

0.5ml serum / serum gel. Serological assays may be affected by icteric/lipaemic/haemolysed samples. These should be avoided if possible
