Harnessing the power of data at GOSH

  1. An illustration of four people stood outside a hospital.

When you come to GOSH we collect information about you – like your name and date of birth, as well as any health conditions you have. We ask you, your carers, your family doctor, and the other hospitals you visit.

  2. An illustration of a mobile phone

All of this information is stored securely in your digital health record and you can use the app MYGOSH to see a lot of it. We keep all of your personal information safe and only share it for your care or for keeping you safe – for example with a social worker.

  3. An illustration of a a computer screen

We sometimes use your personal information to learn more about how we can be a better hospital but if you don’t want us to do that you can say ‘no’ using the NHS national opt-out scheme.

  4. A blue circle with a blue half circle below it.

For all our other work, we hide the information that links to you so nobody can tell who the data came from. This process is known as anonymisation. The data we collect is very important to the vital research that we do so that we can help people like you around the world.

  5. A black background with a blue and red abstract pattern

We want to look at the information from 100s or even 1000s of patients, to see what happens when someone is ill or to spot any patterns or side effects from the treatments we use.

  6. An illustration of a three people stood in a laboratory with a laptop and a microscope

We work with big companies to keep improving and with your help, data can help us provide the very best treatments for children and young people with rare or complex conditions. Now and into the future.
