Call information

GOSH successfully secured £3.5m from the NIHR last year to purchase new equipment to support research activities. The NIHR have now announced that this will be an annual funding call, and they recently launched the NIHR Capital Investment Call 2023/24. Up to £30m is available nationally to purchase assets (capital equipment and associated essential refurbishment costs) that enhance the trust’s capacity and capability to conduct research. Funding will be available from October 2024 to March 2027. Trusts who are successful in the 2023/24 funding round will not be eligible to enter the 2024/25 funding round.

Each trust may submit a single funding application for between £50,000 and £1.5m including VAT if payable, with individual equipment costing a minimum of £15,000. Equipment requested must be owned by the NHS and housed within a trust building, however it may be used to support a combination of research activities led by GOSH and ICH.

Although funding can be requested in any research area, should the NIHR call be oversubscribed, priority will be given to requests that support the following:

  • reaching underserved communities and improving access to research
