Orthopaedic Review: update for patients and families

25 Jan 2026, 8 a.m.

There are stories running in the media today that further report on the review into the care of patients by an orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Yaser Jabbar, who worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital between 2017 and 2022.

Firstly, we would like to say again, how very sorry we are to all patients and families who have been affected. We have had many conversations with patients and families, and we know nothing we can do will make up for the experiences that they have had and the impact it has had on them.

The stories refer to a report which is due to be published on Thursday 29 January that details the findings of our review of patients of Mr Jabbar. It gives details of our findings in full and explains the work we have done within the Orthopaedic Service and across the hospital to improve our services.

Our intention throughout this process has been to share information with families first and we are sorry that some information detailing levels of harm has been published without permission. We will be finalising our report, sharing it with families and publishing it as planned on Thursday.

Accessing the report

The report will be available from Thursday 29 January on our dedicated Orthopaedic Review page. It will also be presented at our Public Board meeting on the same day.

Patients and families will have recently received a letter giving further information about the report and how to access it in a different format. If you would like the report in a different language, or sent to you via post, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) who will arrange this for you.

Further information for patients, families and the public will be added to our website on this day. You may also see further media coverage over the coming days.

Support for patients and families

We remain deeply sorry to everyone who have been hurt and impacted. We also recognise that the findings within the report will be difficult for some patients and their families to read and we are sorry for any distress that this causes.

Psychological support remains available for any patients and families impacted. If you feel you would benefit from this, please contact PALS on 020 7829 7862 or by emailing pals@gosh.nhs.uk.

Next steps

As our commissioner, NHS England has a role in identifying and sharing learning to improve services for future. We will share more about plans for further learning at our Board meeting and will keep families updated.
