Video transcript - what's around Great Ormond Street Hospital?
Hi, I’m Dominique and I’m a patient at GOSH.
We know it can be difficult coming to new place for the first time. But don’t worry, there are lots of facilities available around GOSH to make things easier while you’re away from home. The hospital has its own pharmacy, shop and restaurant, with a cash point located at the main entrance.
But there are more streets around GOSH where you can pick up essential items as well as a bite to eat. If you turn left out of the main hospital entrance, you will reach Lamb’s Conduit Street, with the entrance to Octav Botnar on the left.
Lamb’s Conduit Street has independent shops, cafes and a small supermarket. Turn right down the street and you will reach Theobold’s Road. On the left is Holborn library, on the right is more shops and cafes. Turn right and walk down Theoblod’s road to bring you to Southampton Row which will be on the right hand side. Here you will find banks, shops, hotel supermarkets, plus plenty more places to eat and rink
Southampton Row leads to Russell square which has a large garden on the left and the nearest tube station to GOSH is on the right.
This is the Brunswick centre. It has adults and children’s clothes stores, plus a bank, a pharmacy, a supermarket plus restaurants, cafes, and sandwich shops.
About five minutes’ walk away is a large play areas called Coram’s Fields. It has playing equipment and even animals during certain times of the year. A short walk in the opposite direction is Russell square gardens where you’ll find a fountain, a café, large open spaces, and a few curious squirrels. The gardens are located between GOSH and the British museum – one of the many near the hospital.
There are a few ways to get around GOSH in London, you can get the tube from Russell Square, it’s only five minutes’ walk away to take a bus the nearest bus stop in Southampton Row is the nearest mainline railway stations: Kings X and Euston about 15mins away. If you do have to come to GOSH by car, remember that parking is very limited, the nearest pay and display are parks are at Woburn Place or Marchmont Street or you can park in the immediate area of the hospital, but online if you display a parking badge.
If you find something fun to do that we’ve missed out, pop in to the PALs office and talk them so they can tell other patients at the hospital.
