Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) encourages and supports visitors to undertake placements to learn more about the work we do here at GOSH. The hospital is recognised as a world leader in child health education. There are different options that can be applied for which are outlined below.
Young Visitors Programme
The Young Visitors Programme is an initiative to offer short observational placements in the different clinical areas of GOSH to school students applying for medicine at university. The programme is suitable for school students aged 16–18 years and runs throughout the year, offering 3–5 day placements in the specialty of the student's choice, subject to availability of places and supervising staff.
Places are open to all who meet the criteria and are allocated on a chronological basis. Please be aware that there may be occasions when we have to close applications early during popular periods. Completed application forms must be submitted electronically to Young.Visitors@gosh.nhs.uk as either a word document or PDF file.
If you are over the age of 18 and wish to observe within GOSH you will need to enquire with the department you wish to visit directly. If the department are able to offer you a placement, please email email@example.com and request an application form with the details of your placement including the GOSH Line Manager who is offering the placement. Please note that there is a fee to process your contract and at least 6 weeks’ notice is required.
If you are a medical student and wish to carry out an elective placement or observership with GOSH please email firstname.lastname@example.org for an application form. A member of the team will then contact the division which you would like to visit to organise a placement for you. For more information please go to the Medical Students page. Please note that there is a fee to process your contract and at least 6 weeks’ notice is required.
