Assessing Risk in Children & Young People with Mental Health Difficulties
This one-day simulation-based study day focuses on the safe and effective care of children and young people with mental health difficulties
Course overview
On this study day, in a welcoming and confidential setting, participants will reflect on real case examples, learn key skills in risk assessment, and practice communicating with a young person in distress.
Learning outcomes:
- Enhance practice in the care of young people with mental health difficulties.
- Judge what information is relevant to provide when referring to child and adolescent psychiatry.
- Appreciate the importance of reflective case-based discussion as part of sustainable practice.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the legal framework for children and adolescents presenting with mental health difficulties.
- Formulate a risk assessment of children and adolescents presenting with mental health difficulties in paediatric settings.
- Develop key skills in sensitive risk assessment through practice with a trained actor.

Any patient-facing hospital staff who informally or formally assess risk or encounter risk in the young people they see
