We are Recruiting a Musician in Residence!

We are recruiting for the freelance role of musician in residence at GOSH to deliver weekly, half day performance based sessions for patients and families in outpatient clinics and inpatient wards. The musician in residence may have a background in any musical genre and play any instrument.

The chosen musician will have some flexibility to choose the half day they work at GOSH. The day must be the same each week, between the hours of 09:30am – 1:00pm or 1:30 – 5:00pm and must work around the current programme schedule. 

Fees are paid at £210 per day or £115 per half day. Repertoire development is paid in addition to delivery.

Main duties include

  • Creating a varied and changing repertoire of music to appeal to different ages and backgrounds
  • Performing in inpatient and outpatient wards
  • Inviting families to join in with participatory performances where appropriate
  • Collecting feedback during sessions
  • Participating in evaluation meetings with the wider artist in residence team
  • Acting as a representative of GOSH Arts whilst at the hospital

Successful candidates will be required to

  • Complete an enhanced DBS check
  • Complete Occupational Health screening
  • Undertake a hospital induction
  • Wear and ID badge and GOSH Arts T-shirt whilst at the hospital

Person specification

Essential

At least 3 years of performance experience

At least 2 years’ experience working in participatory contexts

Evidence of a dynamic and inclusive performance practice

The ability to support vulnerable young people and children

The ability to work independently in a busy environment 

Empathetic and sensitive to a challenging environment but with the ability to maintain professional boundaries and adhere to confidentiality requirements

The ability to be flexible and reactive to situations

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to people from different backgrounds

Desirable

Experience of working in a healthcare setting

Experience of working with children and young people in 1:1 settings

Experience of working with other artists using a range of art forms

Experience of working with a range of organisations and stakeholders
