The Together Festival

The Together Festival on the 19 – 21 September, will present a series of workshops, tours, talks and performances that are open to all patients, families, staff and local residents. From fun family-friendly activities, to film screenings and contemporary dance, there is something for everyone.

The festival will be a chance to view the The Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Disease in Children and its inspiring art commissions ahead of its official opening and will bring to life and animate the spaces and ideas behind its conception.

All events are free and most are drop-in, but some require booking – please look out for the registration links below:

Thursday 19 September

Art and Architecture Panel Discussion

7pm, Seminar Room

Bringing together the architects, curators and artists involved in creating the Zayed Centre to discuss the role of public art in healthcare, innovate site specific commissioning, and engagement with patients and public.

The event will be chaired by Moira Sinclair, Chief Executive of the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

Friday 20 September

The Together Chorus

7pm, Atrium

A large scale choral performance sung by a mass choir made up of the GOSH Parent and Staff Choir and a number of community choirs from the local area or associated with the GOSH Arts programme.  Singing a specially commissioned piece inspired by Mark Titchner's artwork and Helen Keller’s quote ‘Together we can do so much’.

Open House Tours

Times: 9.30, 10, 10.30am, Public/Outpatient Areas

Art and Architecture Tours of outpatient spaces led by architect and arts team as part of Open House London.

Audio-described Tour

Time: 2pm, Public/Outpatient Areas

This tour will be co-led by VocalEyes describer Eleanor Margolies and building experts Vivienne Reiss, Head of Arts at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and Gavin Henderson, from architecture studio Stanton Williams.

The Orb Dances

12.30pm and 1.30pm, Atrium

Dancers from Company Wayne McGregor will lead a short dance workshop for all ages and experiences, exploring McGregor’s movement and creative method.

Animation Stations

Ongoing: 11am – 4pm, Interactive Stations, Outpatient waiting

A number of fun, creative activities led by artist Judith Brocklehurst and members of the Young Peoples Advisory Group for families to take part in and learn more about the Zayed Centre for Research, research and the interactive stations.

The Same and Different

Ongoing 12am – 3pm, Outpatient Garden

Artist Isobel Manning will lead family workshops in the Outpatient garden area, inspired by Dana Al Mazrouei’s unique tactile circular artwork, and recreating some of the participatory activities with GOSH patients that originally inspired the work.

The Red Balloon

Time: 2pm, Seminar Room

Screening of Albert Lamorisse’s classic short film The Red Balloon, one of the visual references for The Kinds of Life ‘orb’ concept, followed by the screening of a series of animations by artists collaborating with biomedical scientists, commissioned by Animate Projects as part of the Silent Signal project.

Studio Wayne McGregor X Kinds of Life

7.30pm, Atrium

Two of the most exciting and well respected names in their fields of contemporary arts come together - with performance by Studio Wayne McGregor in response to major new work by Random International, Kinds of Life.
