Clinics and wards

Welcome to information on our clinic and ward areas.

Outpatient clinic

The clinics are held in the Homeopathic Building which is located next to the main entrance of the Hospital (and detached from the Hospital building).

Most patients will need X-rays before seeing the surgeon. Hence, all patients are asked to arrive at least 45 minutes before their appointment time to allow time for registration and for X-rays to be done.

If you need a plaster cast removal and X-ray before your clinic appointment please arrive at least 1 hour before your appointment.

This is to ensure that patients can be seen on the day and don’t miss their allocated consultation time with the surgeon.

For any questions about appointments of cancelling appointments please telephone your consultant’s secretary (see below for details) or the Assistant Service Manager on 0207 813 8145.

Pre-admission clinics

Approximately 4-6 weeks prior to your child’s operation and admission to hospital, most children will be asked to come to hospital for an assessment by the medical team. The clinical nurse specialist will arrange this appointment with you by phone and letter.

The assessment will be led by a clinical nurse specialist and usually there will be a physiotherapy assessment and/or an occupational therapy assessment at the same time. Sometimes blood test or X-rays may be taken. You meet your child’s consultant or a member of their team.

Staying at the hospital

Most patients will stay on Sky Ward, an 18-bed-ward in the Octav Botnar Wing. There is a high dependency unit for children that have undergone major surgery. Patients may be staying on other wards as well, especially if only admitted for day surgery.
