Referrals to the Eating Disorders Team

The referral criteria for the EDT are:

  • Diagnosed or suspected eating disorder, disordered eating of psychological origin, or medically unexplained weight loss or other symptoms (e.g. vomiting) affecting eating behaviour
  • Age seven to 17 inclusive
  • A referral from secondary or tertiary care (paediatrics or mental health)
The Eating Disorder Team (EDT) will accept referrals of young people who are up to the age of 17, and transition to adult services at age 18 is expected, except in unusual circumstances.

Referrals are accepted from CAMHS clinicians or local consultant paediatricians. If referrals do not come from a CAMHS team, we will always liaise with local CAMHS colleagues prior to assessing the child or young person. In a small number of cases we will accept a GP referral: please contact the Team Administrator if you are thinking of making such a referral.

The referral may be for assessment, consultation, inpatient or outpatient care. All children and young people who are referred to the EDT follow the same pathway. If, after the assessment, it is agreed that patients are admitted to the Mildred Creak Unit, they may be under the care of Dr Elaine Chung, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, or Dr Jon Goldin, Inpatient Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.

If you wish to discuss whether a referral to the EDT is appropriate for a child or young person, please Contact Us.

Referrals for the EDT should be sent in writing to Dr Dasha Nicholls, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist or to The Eating Disorders Team.
