Video: What to bring

Packing for hospital can take a bit of time – and imagination! Watch our video for top tips from other TeenGOSH patients on what to bring to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Or, use the checklist below.

A video transcript is also available.

Remember, the tips in our video won’t be right for everyone. If you have any questions, check with your doctor or nurse beforehand.

Work out what clothes you’ll need – something for the day and the night. Don’t forget your:

  • slippers
  • dressing gown
  • favourite jumper in case you get cold
Remember, it can be very warm in hospital, sometimes warm enough to wear a t-shirt in the winter!

Don’t forget to bring the things you use every day:

  • toiletries (deodorant, moisturiser etc)
  • toothbrush
  • toothpaste
  • medication – but check with the medical team if you do have to take medicine regularly

Bring some activities so you don’t get bored:

  • computer games
  • personal stereo
  • magazines, books
  • notepad and pen
  • mobile phone/tablet – GOSH has Wi-Fi you can connect to for the internet

School work

If you’re going to be in hospital for more than a week, you’ll need to bring your schoolwork with you – and some pens and paper! You can go to classes at the Hospital School too.
