Clinical Training (PhD) Fellowship
Internal GOSH/ICH and External applicants.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for clinicians interested in paediatric translational research to undertake a three year Clinical PhD Fellowship funded by the NIHR. 2-3 fellowships will be available to start within the next academic year (start date flexible)
Successful candidates will be able to undertake their Fellowship based at the ICH. They will need to identify their supervisors, chosen research project, and host institute as part of this application (see further details in the job description). Funding is available to support 2-3 Clinical PhD Fellowships and will be based at ICH.
The programme offers £32,478 - £48,123 per annum or Junior Doctors Pay Scale - £26,614 - £46,208 per annum (appointment will be made on the appropriate pay scale in line with the appointed candidate’s clinical training and experience).
Hold a registered primary qualification in Medicine (e.g. MBBS), and be eligible for full registration or hold limited registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
Be undertaking their specialty training and would be desirable to have completed their Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), Surgeons (MRCS), or equivalent exam.
Be at an appropriate point in their clinical training to undertake a PhD, and should have clear plans for the completion of their specialty training. Applicants should consult their deanery about undertaking a PhD and their plans to complete specialty training before developing an application.
Demonstrate their ambition to pursue a clinical academic career path, and be able to provide evidence of any previous research experience. Candidates do not need to have held a previous position with formal research time (e.g. an academic foundation or academic clinical fellowship (ACF) post), but some previous research experience to provide evidence that a candidate is prepared to undertake a PhD would be helpful.
Have a good grasp of the proposed project including the research plan, the potential for the research to provide patient benefit in future, and likely barriers to the success of the project.
Not have previously undertaken PhD. Candidates who have started a PhD (or equivalent) may be considered, however they are only eligible to apply if, at the proposed start date, they have not been registered for more than 12 months if registered full time, or 24 months if registered part time.
Be able to provide recent evidence that their spoken and written command of the English language is adequate for the Fellowship for which they have applied, if they are not nationals of a majority English speaking country, in line with UCL PhD entry requirement (see English language requirements for further information).
Successful candidates will be able to undertake their Fellowship based here at the ICH. They will need to identify their supervisors, chosen research project, and host institute as part of this application (see further details in the job description). Applicants can either contact prospective PIs directly, or the BRC can facilitate this through the EOI form. In order to apply and download the application form(s) - please follow this link.
