Dr Kieran McHugh has been a Consultant Paediatric Radiologist since 1993, initially at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and at Great Ormond Street Hospital since 1997.

"My main area of interest is in the radiology of paediatric oncology. As a general radiologist I have a commitment to the understanding and interpreting of all aspects of paediatric diagnostic imaging as well as to the teaching and training of this fascinating specialty."

Dr McHugh received his undergraduate training at University College, Galway, Ireland, qualifying in 1982. His Radiology training began in Southampton followed by paediatric radiology Fellowships in Toronto at the Hospital for Sick Children, Canada, and the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children in Sydney, Australia.

Dr McHugh is the Paediatric section editor for Cancer Imaging, an associate editor for the British Journal of Radiology and a member of the editorial board of Paediatric Radiology.

In addition he is a former Chairman of the British Society of Paediatric Radiology and until recently was a member of the Board of Trustees of the College of Radiographers. He has served on numerous committees at the Royal College of Radiologists.

Dr McHugh is currently the radiology lead for the SIOPEN (neuroblastoma) and European Paediatric Soft Tissue Sarcoma Study Groups.

Research Interests

Dr McHugh’s main interests are in paediatric oncology imaging and general paediatric radiology. He has written on a wide range of topics with over 120 peer reviewed articles, plus published case reports, commentaries, letters, numerous book chapters, e-learning modules and he is the sole author of a textbook on paediatric radiology. He has been involved in many successful research grant applications.
