Dr Helen Ritzema is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist within the Parenting and Child Service in the Department of Child and Adolescent Mental Health at Great Ormond Street Hospital. She has worked at GOSH since 2013.
Dr Ritzema has a special interest in working with children who have spent time in the care system. She is also interested in psychoanalytic psychotherapy assessment and treatment of complex trauma, attachment, and depression. She has a keen interest in conducting clinical research. In addition to working at GOSH Dr Ritzema conducts expert witness reports for the family courts.
Qualifications and training
Helen completed a degree in Psychology at the University of Wales. Following this she undertook postgraduate training in Paediatric Nursing at King's College London before completing training in Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Anna Freud Centre. She has since completed a Doctorate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at University College London and recently completed the Cardiff University/Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate.
She is a member of the Association of Child Psychotherapists.
Current research interests include professionals working with maltreated children and the development of mentalization-based parent-child treatment programmes for complex trauma.
