Heidi Furr

Heidi has worked for eleven years in the Occupational Therapy Department at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). 

Heidi is a Clinical Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist (OT), and the lead for the Acute Neurosciences OT Service. She is part of both the Neurology team and the Neurosurgery team, providing assessment and acute therapy intervention for children on the ward.

Heidi’s areas of interest include brain injury, both traumatic and acquired as well as neuro-developmental assessment and developmental delay. In addition to this, fine motor deficits and hand dysfunction. Heidi enjoys working within the Neuromuscular team, assessing and providing management advice for children with conditions such as muscular dystrophies and peripheral neuropathies.


Qualifications and training

Training and qualifications

Heidi has a BSc (hons) in Occupational Therapy. She has attended various training courses since 1996, including the COOP training, sensory integration, acquired brain injury management, as well as teaching at paediatric conferences in London. She completed her full Bobath training in 2008 in London. 

She has participated and attended international conferences such as ‘Paediatric neuromuscular rehabilitation’ (2006), Denmark and ‘Re-organisation of hand function in children with brain lesions’ (2004), Pisa, Italy. She is trained in the use of the Bayley developmental scales.

Heidi is also trained in Sensory integration assessment and treatment, Levels 1 and 2 (2002) and has completed both Levels 1 and 2 of the ‘British Association of Hand Therapists’ assessments (2002 and 2004). Heidi has attended many other courses and conferences on paediatric therapy, advances in neuroscience, postural management, developmental coordination disorder and dyspraxia, since 1996.
