Industrial and commercial opportunities

Great Ormond Street Hospital's (GOSH) commitment to being at the forefront of world-leading medical research and innovation means we are continually engaging with partners on commercial opportunities.

We are keen to work alongside pharmaceutical, medical device, biotech and diagnostic companies to continue to provide our patients with opportunities to participate in cutting-edge research and innovation.

GOSH hosts a large number of industry research studies across our clinical areas, and this is continually expanding.

GOSH’s support for commercial research

GOSH is ready to host studies sponsored or fully-funded by commercial companies. The commercial research currently undertaken at the Trust is largely comprised of studies involving clinical trials of new drugs or medical devices, but also includes qualitative and non-interventional research.

The GOSH and University College London GOS Institute of Child Health Joint Research and Development Office is responsible for costing, pricing and contracting all research activity in GOSH that is funded by a commercial company, including clinical trials sponsored by industry, clinical and non-clinical collaborative research projects. We ensure that legally adequate contractual arrangements, including indemnity, are in place and conduct full research governance reviews before a study commences.

Our clinical, non clinical delivery teams and governance team  are able to provide advice on feasibility and study setup, offering a wealth of experience and insight into all aspects of paediatric research. We also provide industry with information about research capabilities and opportunities for technology transfer. We are happy to advise investigators on intellectual property rights, working closely with Technology Transfer Offices to facilitate commercialisation. We are also able to assist with Material Transfer Agreements and Confidentiality Agreements

Our Clinical Research Facility provides infrastructure to deliver commercial sponsored studies on time and to target.

Commercial partnerships for innovation

The Data Research, Innovation and Virtual Environments (DRIVE) unit at GOSH provides companies the opportunity to collaborate on data and digital technology projects. The unit leads on developing digital infrastructure, expertise and provides a physical space to support innovation in paediatric care.

The unit has worked with leading commercial companies and small-and-medium enterprises in life sciences and medtech sectors, as well as other NHS organisations.
