Clive Edelsten

Mr Clive Edelsten was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Ipswich Hospital, Suffolk in 1996 and at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in 1998.

Although running clinics in the Ophthalmology department, he is part of the Paediatric Rheumatology service at GOSH.

Specialisms

Mr Edelsten's special interest is in paediatric and adult ocular inflammatory disease. He also has a longstanding interest in adult macular disease. He has wide experience in the surgery of complicated cataracts associated with paediatric uveitis.

Qualifications

Mr Edelsten trained at Cambridge University and the Middlesex Hospital, London and qualified in 1983. He was appointed a consultant in 1996.

Research Interests

His main research interests are in studying the treatment and outcome measures of paediatric uveitis and participates in the following groups:

  • American Uveitis Society Guidelines for management of JIA-uveitis committee

  • International Outcome Measures in Uveitis group

  • the trial committee for the UK-wide Sycamore trial of adalimumab in JIA-uveitis

  • Local PI for the CAPS uveitis study examining outcomes of JIA-uveitis in five UK centres
