Prab Prabhakar
Dr Prab Prabhakar is a consultant paediatric neurologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Associate Professor in Paediatric Neurology at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health.
He is the Clinical Lead for Neurology. He is a general neurologist who sees a wide variety of childhood neurological illness including epilepsy, stoke, demyelinating disorders, headaches, head injury (both accidental and non-accidental), multidisciplinary assessment of complex neurometabolic and genetic conditions across the age range both as inpatient and outpatient.
He is the Education Lead for Post Graduate Exams at Great Ormond Street Hospital and examiner for the Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health (RCPCH).
Specialisms
He is the lead for the Children’s Headache Services at GOSH and runs the clinical and research programme for this service. He is a founding member and Chair of the Children’s Headache Network (CHaN), a special interest group od the British Paediatric Neurology Association (BPNA)
Qualifications
He qualified from Madras University in Chennai in 1993. He undertook General Paediatric, Neonatal and Community paediatric training in various Hospitals across England.
He underwent training in Paediatric Neurology in London, and was appointed as a consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2007.
He subsequently underwent training in Paediatric Neurology in London, and was appointed as a consultant in 2007 on completion of training.
Professional membership
He is a council member of BASH (British Association of Study of Headaches).
He is a member of the Child and Adolescent the paediatric representative in the classification subcommittee of the International Headache Society.
Research Interests
His research commitment currently is in drug trials in both the acute and prophylactic treatment of migraine.
