RBC Race for the Kids: GOSH’s fun run and family festival

The work of Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) has long depended on charitable support to go above and beyond for seriously ill children and their families. RBC Race for the Kids, Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity’s biggest fundraising event of the year, is celebrating its 10th birthday this October – and we’d love you to come along!
What is RBC Race for the Kids?
On Saturday 12 October in London’s beautiful Hyde Park, thousands of fundraisers will come together to walk, jog, run, wheel and scoot their way around a 5K course, before enjoying a wonderful family festival. Featuring live entertainment from Butlins and fun activities (including arts and crafts and a climbing wall), it’s the perfect opportunity to have fun as a family, celebrate our hospital’s community, and raise as much money as possible to support the hospital’s vital work.
RBC Race for the Kids prides itself on being an accessible and inclusive event – with both the event course and festival village designed for people of all ages and abilities.
Who’ll be taking part?
Alongside thousands of children, their families and friends, many different teams of Great Ormond Street Hospital staff will be on the start line. The nurses and doctors of Squirrel Wardspend their working days caring for children and young people with gastroenterological, metabolic or endocrine conditions. But on the 12 October, they’ll be taking part as colleagues and friends to raise what they can for the hospital.
“We pride ourselves on being a really close-knit team,” explains nurse Hannah.
“I have made some of my closest friends on the ward and I think this comes from how supportive we are to each other, how we work together to support children with complex conditions, and the fact that I see them more than my family!”
Tasha, who works with patients and their siblings at the GOSH School, will be participating in RBC Race for the Kids for the fourth time! “My team has grown from running it on my own, to bringing my parents, aunt, brother, niece Eloise and nephew Michael – who did it last year on his scooter,” remembers Tasha. “We’ve always had a fantastic time!”
The Respiro Runners, a team of twelve from the hospital’s Sleep Respiratory Team, will also be in Hyde Park. “All of us have a different patient story in our heads,” says Senior Sleep Physiologist, Ansel Godinho.
“We've all been there, we've all been affected by the stories and bravery of these seriously ill children. We know where the money goes, we know what it does. We might not see it directly in our department, but we see it all around the hospital, all the benefits of the charity fundraising.”
