Details of how to contact the Pain Control Service at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

For in-patient actute pain, procedural pain and chronic pain management

  • All patients who are having PCA, NCA or Epidural analgesia are visited at least once daily by the Pain Control Service Monday to Saturday. Sunday cover is provided by the on-call anaesthetist.

  • During the day from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 3pm Saturday, a clinical nurse specialist (CNS) is available on bleep 0577 to help and advise with pain management issues.

  • Between 8pm and 8am, calls for urgent pain reviews or issues to the serivce are covered by the on-call anaesthetist (bleep 0577). Non-urgent calls should be directed to extension 5940 (24 hr answerphone).
  • In-patients with chronic pain problems who are not already under our care will also need a consultant to consultant referral letter (see below for guidance).

Patients can be referred to the out-patient chronic pain management service using the guidance given in the following sections.
