North Thames Neurosciences Network (for the Neurosurgical Child)

The North Thames Neurosciences Network (for the Neurosurgical Child) is commissioned by NHS England and comprises two specialist neurosciences centres:

  • Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (administrative lead)
  • Addenbrooke’s Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

About the network

The aim of the network is to continually improve the experience that children and their families have of services from the point of the initial concern and diagnosis, through to aftercare and support at home. The network is a managed network focused on:

  • Coordinating patient pathways between providers over a wide area to ensure access to specialist resources and expertise
  • Providing the mechanism to bring all parts of the service together in a collaborative way.
  • This will allow for more local determination, innovation and efficiency across the pathway

The network was established in 2013 in response to the Safe and Sustainable Children's Neurosurgical Services review.

Network Partnership Board

The Network Partnership Board comprises clinical and operational representatives from both sites. It meets three times per year to formulate and review progress on the work plan.

What are we working on?

The focus for 2018-2019 includes the following:

  • Monitoring new patient care pathways across the network for a range of conditions
  • Sharing data and outcomes across the network
  • Engaging with patients and families to improve patient experience
