Anterior release spinal fusion

Scoliosis is a lateral (side to side) curvature of the spine. It can be corrected in an operation under general anaesthetic.

The bones in the affected part of the spine are fused together and held in place with one or two metal rods. This operation usually requires a stay of three weeks in hospital.

Children have halo traction after the operation and are nursed on a Stryker frame.
