Work experience

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) encourages and supports visitors to undertake placements to learn more about the work we do here at GOSH. The hospital is recognised as a world leader in child health education. There are different options that can be applied for which are outlined below.

Young Visitors Programme

We offer a Young Visitors Programme at GOSH for those aged 16 to 17 who are in full time education to observe in a clinical setting. The programme runs throughout the year and is subject to availability.

Please be aware that we are now closed for any new applications until further notice due to the high volume of applications already received. For those who have already submitted completed application forms, only successful applicants will be contacted by email. If you do not receive a response six weeks prior to the start of your preferred date we are unable to offer you a placement.

Observing

If you are over the age of 18 and wish to observe within GOSH you will need to enquire with the department you wish to visit directly. If the department are able to offer you a placement, please email honorary.contracts@gosh.nhs.uk and request an application form with the details of your placement including the GOSH Line Manager who is offering the placement. Please note that there is a fee to process your contract and at least 6 weeks’ notice is required.

Medical students

If you are a medical student and wish to carry out an elective placement or observership with GOSH please email honorary.contracts@gosh.nhs.uk for an application form. A member of the team will then contact the division which you would like to visit to organise a placement for you. For more information please go to the Medical Students page. Please note that there is a fee to process your contract and at least 6 weeks’ notice is required.
