- The gastroenterology department is one of the UK’s leading centres of excellence in treating complex diseases affecting the gut and other associated organs (such as the pancreas). It is the UK’s only gut tissue engineering facility and has the largest group of paediatric home parenteral nutrition (PN) patients in the UK.
- The department of endocrinology provides the largest specialist service for children and young persons with endocrine problems and diabetes mellitus in Europe, and receives national and international referrals. The Complex Diabetes Service at GOSH is linked to the UCLH Diabetes Service and forms part of the North Central London Paediatric Diabetes Network.
- The department of metabolic medicine is the principal provider of specialist child metabolic medicine services, both emergency and elective, for London (North of the Thames) and the surrounding counties, as well as an international service for the management of rare and complex paediatric metabolic conditions. It is the largest paediatric metabolic centre in the UK.
- The nephrology department provides a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient service for children with kidney disease, including acute and chronic kidney disease. There is an active renal replacement therapy programme which includes treatment with chronic peritoneal dialysis or haemodialysis and renal transplantation. It is the largest paediatric renal unit in the UK.
The Wards/GIU Suite
There are two wards on Rainforest and they are located on Level 5 of the Southwood Building. Rainforest Endocrine and Metabolic (Endo/Met) Ward is located on C side of the ward. Rainforest Gastroenterology (Gastro) Ward is located on D side of the ward.
Kingfisher Ward/Gastro Investigation Suite
This is located on Level 3 of the Octav Botnar Wing. The Ward is for children who need medical investigations and tests. It is open six days a week, from Monday to Saturday. Some patients are seen as day cases, while others are admitted for one night or more.
Eagle Ward is located on Level 7 of the Morgan Stanley Clinical Building. This is the renal ward for in-patients and haemodialysis.
