Bear Ward

Bear Ward is for children and young people with cardiac (heart) conditions. Some children stay here after surgery and others come for other types of treatments and tests.

Bear Ward (Public wayfinding)

Bear Ward has 24 beds, including eight beds for patients who have just left Flamingo Ward and need extra care.

Staff on the ward

Bear Ward is mainly run by our team of nurses, who work closely with the doctors to help you get better.

Other staff who work on the ward include physiotherapists, healthcare assistants, play specialists, psychologists, dieticians and housekeeping staff.

The following members of staff will be available to help you during your stay on Bear Ward:

  • Carolyn Akyil, Ward Sister
  • Abdul Patel, Ward Administrator

Some of the conditions and treatments on Bear Ward include:

  • cardiovascular disease
  • tracheal disorders
  • pulmonary hypertension
  • cardiothoracic surgery
  • post heart/lung transplant
