Coming in as an inpatient
Being an inpatient means you're going to stay in hospital for at least one night. Some people spend weeks or even months as an inpatient.
When you come in you'll be introduced to your nurse. In some hospitals you will also meet a play specialist, the consultant or doctor and the rest of the team that will be looking after you.
Although hospitals can be very large, wards are usually fairly small so you'll soon get to know everyone.
Most people have a room to themselves, so you can keep your own space. Even if you're in a shared room, there'll be a curtain you can draw around the bed for some privacy.
Mum or dad can stay with you most of the time, so you're never on your own (unless you want to be). And the rest of your family and mates can visit too – you just need to check the visiting hours.
The nurses are always around. If you've got any questions, or just want a chat, they're pretty easy going.
