Working With UCL Business PLC

UCL Business PLC (UCLB) works with investigators across Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and the UCL Institute of Child Health (ICH) to support exceptional research for positive social, health and economic benefit.

We work closely with researchers to identify and where appropriate file patents on promising new technologies and innovations at pre-publication stage.

We also support researchers to translate new technologies towards the clinic through applications to the UCLB Proof of Concept Fund and translational grant funding schemes.

The long term aim is to partner with industry to maximise the impact of the discoveries made by GOSH and the ICH and translate them into technologies that can be made widely available for patient benefit.

For more information on how UCLB supports research at GOSH and the ICH please visit the UCLB website or email Dr Chris Williams.

UCL Business in action

Buccal midozolam treatment for epilepsy

In partnership with Special Products Limited (SPL) and the National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy, Professor Brian Neville and Dr Rod Scott at ICH have collaborated on the development of buccal midozolam for treatment of status epilepticus. SPL’s buccal midozolam is currently distributed for clinical use via a specials license; they are currently seeking Marketing Authorisation to distribute this widely. UCLB recently completed a license agreement to capture the ICH’s contribution to this development.

A community-based obesity intervention

Developed and clinically validated by Professors Alan Lucas and Atul Singhal at the ICH, the “Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do it” Programme, is a multicomponent community-based obesity intervention for seven to 12-year-olds. Licensed to MEND Central in 2007, the programme is currently being used across the world.
