We collaborate with internal and external organisations and artists to develop creative research projects that help patients overcome clinical challenges, increase their knowledge of procedures and conditions and build confidence and resilience.

Our recent research projects have included Blood Quest and The Heart of the Matter.

Blood Quest is an app for iPad which helps children and young people prepare for blood tests and aims to alleviate anxiety during tests. It was created in partnership with the Centre for Outcomes and Experience Research in Children’s Health, Illness and Disability (ORCHID) at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). The app is free to download on the apple app store.

The Heart of the Matter is a public engagement project conceived by artist Sofie Layton, Dr Giovanni Biglino and GOSH Arts and engages a multidisciplinary team of congenital heart disease experts, health psychologists, producers and other artists. In a novel exploration of the heart the project is working with patients, clinicians and artists using medical imaging and techniques such as 3D printing that look at, and inside, the heart. The project will culminate in a multimedia exhibition that will tour London, Bristol and Newcastle in 2018. The Heart of the Matter is supported by the Wellcome Trust.

If you work at GOSH and have an idea for a creative research project you would like to run in your ward or department email us at gosharts@gosh.nhs.uk
