Clinics and wards operated by the Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre (CCC)

The Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre (CCC) at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) operates across two wards.Children admitted under the CCC stay on Lion or Elephant Ward.

Lion Ward is located on Level 6 of the Variety Club Building (VCB) and comprises 14 single cubicles, each with en-suite shower and toilet to provide privacy and to isolate patients in the event of minor infections.

Elephant Ward is located on level 6 of the Variety Club Building (VCB) and consists of 17 single cubicles each with en-suite shower and toilet.

The team also runs outpatient clinics at GOSH. Clinic times are Monday to Friday from 8:30 am-5.30 pm and a standard haemophilia review appointment will include a review with the clinical staff and physiotherapist.

When necessary, appointments are made to fit in with appointments in other areas of the hospital to ensure a good patient journey and reduce travelling and time missed from school.

The GOSH Haemophilia CCC has a full diagnostic repertoire required to diagnose bleeding disorders (both coagulation and platelet based) at all ages of childhood, including young infants, using relatively small volumes of blood.

The Haemophilia CCC facilities include a stand-alone outpatient clinical area and rooms with a resident physiotherapist as well as other members of the team.

The centre has a stock of all the factor concentrates required to treat children with these disorders, though treatment for home use is delivered directly to the patient's home.

Families are also visited at home when required by the haemophilia nurse specialists who provide continuity and co-ordination of care for families. They also liaise with GPs, health visitors, community nurses, shared care hospitals and schools.
