Haematology, Oncology and Immunology

The Occupational Therapy team provides inpatient and outpatient care to children under Haematology, Oncology, Immunology and Infectious Disease specialties at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The occupational therapist may work with you and your child to help minimise the effect that illness, treatment and long hospital stays can have on your child's ability to participate in daily activities.

The occupational therapist can assess your child’s self-care skills, play/development and the skills required for learning. This process may involve providing adaptive equipment to support independence, fatigue management skills, adapting activities so that they are accessible and helping your child structure their day appropriately. They may also undertake specific therapy sessions to help support your child in these areas.

For infants the occupational therapist works with the other members of the multidisciplinary team to encourage the development of skills while in hospital and after discharge. The occupational therapist may offer further advice on positioning, play activities and suitable toys to encourage your child’s development.
