Professor Paul Veys is director of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

His work covers a number of areas, including:

  • stem cell transplant for primary immunodeficiencies

  • reduced intensity stem cell transplant in paediatric diseases

  • immune reconstitution post stem cell transplant

Dr Paul Veys qualified in medicine from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School, London in 1983.

He then continued to Haematology and Blood and Marrow Transplant training at the Royal London Hospital London (1986-1988), Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine (1989-1991), Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London (1989-1991) and the Hospital for Sick Children Toronto, Canada (1993-1994).

  • 1994 – to date Director of Blood and Marrow Transplantation Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust

  • 2007 – to date Reader in Stem Cell Transplantation UCL Institute of Child Health Molecular Immunology Unit

  • 2004 – to date Chair of Children and Young Person’s Pan Thames Blood and Marrow Transplant group

  • 2008 – to date Chair of Immune Deficiencies and Inborn Errors of Metabolism Working Committee, Centre for International blood and Marrow Transplant Research

  • 1998 – 2004 Chairman of United Kingdom’s Children’s Cancer Blood and Marrow Transplant Group

He is also the author of 16 books/chapters, 130 peer-reviewed papers, and in receipt of a £5 million grant income for research.
