“You might come here for investigations such as MRI scans or pre-assessment clinics. Patients that visit Walrus Ward might also visit the lung function unit.

“I came here when I was fourteen as I had a chest wall deformity and I needed an operation.”

Megan speaks to Angie, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner on the ward.

Angie: “I’ve brought you to our treatment room and in here we do lots of procedures. Because we take blood, we have a distraction machine to keep you nice and calm and distracted.”

Megan: “There are six beds here – two single rooms like this and a bay area.”

Megan speaks to Cheryl, a Play Specialist on the ward.

Cheryl: “Hi Megan, I’m a play specialist working on Walrus Day Care”

Megan: “What do you like best about your job?”

Cheryl: “Meeting children like yourself and just having fun really. Shall we go and play with the iPad?”

Megan:  “Yeah”

“There is a playroom for children to use with lots of things to do. There is also a play area in the main waiting room.”

“You can find Walrus Ward on level one of the Morgan Stanley Clinical Building, part of the Mittal Children’s Medical Centre.”
