About the Endocrinology department
The Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), in partnership with adolescent and adult services at University College London Hospitals (UCLH), form the London Centre for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes.
We provide the largest specialist service for children and young persons with endocrine problems and diabetes mellitus in Europe, and receive national and international referrals. We see over 5,000 outpatients and 1,200 inpatients each year.
The Complex Diabetes Service at GOSH is linked to the UCLH Diabetes Service and forms part of the North Central London Paediatric Diabetes Network. This Network aims to deliver a uniform package of care for children and adolescents with diabetes under a single umbrella organisation.
GOSH, together with The UCL Institute of Child Health (ICH) as part of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, forms the largest concentration of children’s health research outside North America and is a world-leading academic establishment in paediatrics. These close relationships enable the pursuit of endocrine and diabetes-related research based upon an integrated approach of careful clinical observation and scientific investigation. We currently have a large and expanding basic science and clinical research programme.
We have an active undergraduate and postgraduate education programme based on a modular structure, and the syllabus of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and the European Board of Paediatrics. We have a thriving national and international fellowship programme, and host both clinical and non-clinical fellows from all over the world.
