Bone marrow transplant (BMT) admission criteria
This is a list of patient diagnoses which are admitted to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) by our Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) team, the timeframe in which they should be admitted and their estimated length of stay (LoS). Health professionals are reminded that this information is for guidance only.
Emergency admissions
Children with the following diagnoses are considered an emergency and should be transferred to GOSH within hours from receipt of referral. Estimated length of stay will be between one to four weeks.
Post Bone Marrow Transplant:
- Significant gastrointestinal bleeding
- Pneumonia or Pneumonitis
- Fever Unresponsive to broad spectrum antibiotics
- Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) or adenoviral disease
- Cardiovascular instability
- Respiratory distress
Elective admissions
Children with the following diagnoses should be referred to GOSH via the non-emergency pathway. Estimated length of stay will be between one to four weeks.
Post Bone Marrow Transplant:
- Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) or adenovirus - viraemia
- Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) or parainfluenza on nasopharyngeal aspirate (NPA)
- Increasing rash
- Significant diarrhoea
- Biochemical organ dysfunction
